Answers

[1] What is "Infinity Engine Customisation" all about?
This website has been set up to provide players (and editors) with a central repository for add-ons and updates to the games that use the Infinity Engine created by Bioware. All of these files on here are created by fans of the games are are meant to add to the game rather than spoil it. But if you would rather not use them then so be it, you don't have to. There is more information regarding this website on the About page.

[2] What are these files on here for?
These files are used to 'enhance' the Infinity Engine games either to make them easier or more complicated. You can also use the items simply to make the game more enjoyable and to create favourite characters from novels (as in the case of the Icewind Dale Trilogy files on here e.g. Drizzt Do'Urden) so that you can carry on the stories from the books. There are many other websites that also have these files, but the aim of this site is to be a central repository for all of these files on the Net.

[3] How are these files installed?
In the most cases the files are installed simply by extracting the contents of the zip files into the 'Overrides' directory within the game directory. They can then be used in the game when the cheats are turned on, or by replacing existing items already within the game.
When this is not possible you may have to use the editors created by TeamBG to install the files, further instructions on how to do this is available on the Installation page.

[4] Isn't it cheating though?
Yes and no. Yes, because you will have the opportunity to create 'super' characters who have extraordinary weapons that may not have otherwise been available through normal gameplay. On the other hand these files may be used to create a more complex game that is far more challenging than the original version, thereby enhancing the gameplay rather than making it easier.

[5] What about using these files in Multi-Player games?
There are no restrictions to using these files in Multi-Player games, however the host of the game must make the conscious decision whether to allow them or not.

[6] I want to create my own items, what do I need?
TeamBG have made an 'Infinity Engine Editor' that allows you to create items and spells and then export this data into a file for inclusion in the game. This software will allow you to create items for all the available Infinity Engine games released so far. Mud-Master have released 3 utils called Gate Keeper, Dale Keeper and Shadow Keeper that allow you to create items for Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale and Baldur's gate II: Shadows of Amn.
Once you've downloaded and installed these programs you can start creating your items and experimenting with the various options of the Infinity Engine.

[7] I've created my item, how do I get it on here?
To get your item on here please include a 'readme' with your item as not only does it help me it also helps others who may download your file for use, and 'zip' up the item and readme into one archive. Then all that needs doing is to email the archive to me at
submissions@rpgcron.karoo.co.uk with a brief description of the item and the game it is intended for and I'll add it to the collection.

[8] I'm having problems creating a 'xxxxx' can you help?
At the moment I'm not able to provide any help with your queries regarding creating specific items, however in the future I have plans to host a forum that people can use to ask for help. If you do require more help then TeamBG offer forums for this type of information that can be found on their website
here.
